Airbus to Use intelligeNDT Technology for Future Inspections on A350 Aircraft
intelligeNDT Systems & Services has received a comprehensive order from the plane manufacturer Airbus for the supply of inspection systems for their A350 XWB aircraft family. Until the end of 2012, intelligeNDT will be the aircraft company's sole supplier for the corresponding inspection equipement for the A350 project.
Due to their innovative technology intelligeNDT was able to secure the contract against strong international competition. As the name implies, intelligeNDT is specialized in non-destructive testing (NDT) with systems for the most varied materials. The company has many years of experience both in the provision of inspection services in the nuclear sector as well as in the supply of inspection systems for the aircraft and space industries and for the German railway system, providing devices for the inspection of ICE high speed trains wheelsets for Deutsche Bahn AG.
intelligeNDT is supplying Airbus with ultrasonic inspection systems for detecting possible flaws, such as air inclusions, in aircraft components which are increasingly being fabricated from carbon fibres. This poses a particular challenge as the individual components are various sizes and geometries and must be inspected quickly with the highest degree of accuracy and reliability without causing any alteration of the material properties.
The initial package to be supplied this year will comprise seven inspection systems for Airbus manufacturing facilities in Germany, France and Spain. |
